Summer of 1983 was a remarkable time in my medical training. I spent the summer at Lagos Island General Hospital with Dr. Nnabueze, who was a remarkable teacher. Watching him operate on some of the most difficult and complicated cases with the modest resources available at that time nutured my love for surgery as a speciality. His eagerness to share his knowledge with a medical student stayed with me forever. I still remember fondly his encouraging words and patience on ward rounds. A fine gentleman and a great surgeon, rest in peace.
